From the series 'One Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets, Explained by the Nurse' (Hyakunin isshu uba ga etoki, 百人一首姥がゑとき), signed with the artist's seal, published by Sato Shotaro, 20th century. Japanese woodblock print, c. 26.4 x 39 cm.
This unusual 20th century print was published by Sato Shotaro, who produced several prints after Hokusai drawings in 1921. Compare examples from the same edition in the British Museum in London, acc. no 1922,0120,0.2, and in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, acc. no JP3417.
Provenance:
Wilfrid Fleisher (1897‑1976), thence by descent in the family.
