Title to first work with large woodcut border, title to Gebissbuch with large engraving, 25 engravings in the text and 4 full-page engravings on 2 plates; last work with 6 full-page engravings in text and 14 leaves of full-page engravings at the end. Complete.
Bound in contemporary vellum, heavily worn and stained, damage to spine, partly loose in binding. Signed by the author on third leaf in the first work and on the second leaf of "Gebissbuch" (dedication leaves. Bookplate to inner cover Carl Fischerström, also modern stamp Fischerström. Some near contemporary notes to flyleaf.
Condition: first title mounted on paper, trimmed, shaved and damaged with loss of text to upper part, signature to title; title to Gebissbuch loose, some plates loose with marginal tears and browning; text partly with staining and waterstaining, a few tears, some dampstaining and stains, about 8 pages with marks from a dog or similar in lower margin).

FIRST EDITION of one of the rarest early German books on horses, with numerous plates and engravings in the text. The first part deals with riding instructions and how to treat the horses, the other on bits and bridling.
Provenance: Per Philip Jacob Waloddi Fischerström 1828-1892, married to Ida Aminoff. Crown Equerry, colonel, hippologist, courtier, manager of Strömsholm's stud farm and first manager of Strömsholm Riding School. Fischerström participated in the occupation corps in Schleswig 1849-50 and attended the Spanish Riding School in Vienna 1862-63. As the first director of the riding school, Fischerström had a great influence on the riding skills within the Swedish army.
