Förlagets tryckta originalomslag, något nött, några revor. Inlagan har varit vikt, liten lagad reva i övre marginal på samtliga blad.
Scarce catalogue for a 1924 exhibition of paintings by August Strindberg, the first posthumous exhibition of Strindbergs’s paintings .
33 paintings are listed, with names of owners, and another 6 works are said to have been added to the exhibition after the printing of the catalogue. A statement on the final page claims that “The paintings included in this catalogue are those known to date by August Strindberg.(apart from 13 given to the Nordiska Museet). Some may be in France and Germany.”. 33 paintings are listed with their owners. The exhibition was supplemented with six more paintings according to a handwritten note we have seen in another copy. The portrait of Strindberg on the first page depicts a pastel by S. Segelcke painted in Berlin in 1893. Two of Strindberg’s paintings are illustrated; “The Wave” (1903) and “The City” (1904). A variant of "The Wave” painted in 1901 sold at Sothebys in New York 2022 for a record price of US$ 8.4 million. Today more than 100 paintings by Strindberg are known.
Gummesons konstsalong was an art gallery at Strandvägen 17 in Stockholm, founded in 1912 (the year of Strindberg’s death) by the bookseller Carl Gummeson (1869-1941). The gallery introduced modernism to the Swedish art public early on.In 1916, an exhibition was held with Wassily Kandinsky, Lyonel Feininger, Gabriele Münter, and then Paul Klee, Max Ernst, and Edvard Munch in the 1920s. Swedish artists who exhibited included Isaac Grünewald and Gösta Adrian-Nilsson (GAN). During the 1950s, the gallery was the center of the Swedish neo-expressionist movement. In 1964, a memorial exhibition was organized for the French artist Henri Paul Sert. Andy Warhol had an exhibition in 1972.
