Contemporary worn full vellum, cracks in lower joint and inner hinges. Upper cover and inner margins of preliminary leaves and the following40 leaves somewhat stained, on the prliminary leaves slightly affecting text; lower portion of 30 leaves at end slightly waterstained. Small armorial stamp on front fly-leaf; bookplate.

This book cotains the greatly expandes second edition of Peripateticarum quaestionum (first ed. 1571) and the second edition of Daemonum investigatio peripatetica (originally published in 1580), together with the first editions of Quaestionum medicarum and De medicamentorum facultatibus.
Second edition of Cesalpino's famous Questionum peripateticarum in which the claims for his discovery of the circulation of blood have been based. In Book 5 he deals with, inter alia, the spontaneous generation of animal bodies, the different parts taken by the male and female elements in the formation of the foetus, and the supreme importance of the heart as the origin, not just of arteries, but also of veins and capillaries. It is also in this section (f. 125 verso in the present ed.) that he uses the term 'circulatio sanguinis' (circulatuiion of the blood) in a scientific sense for the first time.
