Première édition de la traduction francaise donnée et enrichie de notes et d?éclaircissements par l'historien genevois Paul-Henri Mallet (1730-1807) de cette relation des voyages de l'historien anglais William Coxe (1747-1828) en Europe du Nord dont l'édition originale est parue à Londres en 1784. Mallet a augmenté l'édition d'un Voyage en Norvège. William Coxe effectua son voyage dans les pays du Nord en 1778 et 1779 dont il rapporta pour la Suède et le Danemark ses notes sur le système politique, la démographie, la religion et le commerce tandis que les chapitres sur la Pologne sont plus historiques. L'illustration comprend 19 planches hors texte gravées en taille-douce (conforme à la table des gravures), dont 12 cartes et plans dépliants (Pologne, Russie, mer Caspienne, Danemark), 4 portraits gravés par Topfler (Stanislas Auguste, Catherine II, Pugat Chef, Gustave III) et 3 planches (écriture, costumes suédois, ornithologie). L'ouvrage constitue les deuxième et troisième tomes du ?Nouveau Recueil de voyages au Nord de l'Europe et de l'Asie? et porte les faux titre "Nouveau Recueil de voyages, tome deuxième et tome troisième" .Brunet, II, 400.

First edition of the French translation given and enriched with notes and clarifications by the Geneva historian Paul-Henri Mallet (1730-1807) of this account of the travels of the English historian William Coxe (1747-1828) in Northern Europe the original edition of which appeared in London in 1784. Mallet increased the edition of a Voyage en Norway. William Coxe made his trip to the northern countries in 1778 and 1779, from which he brought back for Sweden and Denmark his notes on the political system, demography, religion and trade, while the chapters on Poland are more historical. The illustration includes 19 plates out of text engraved in intaglio (conforming to the table of engravings), including 12 maps and fold-out plans (Poland, Russia, Caspian Sea, Denmark), 4 portraits engraved by Topfler (Stanislas Auguste, Catherine II , Pugat Chef, Gustave III) and 3 plates (writing, Swedish costumes, ornithology). The book is the second and third volumes of the "New Collection of Travels in Northern Europe and Asia" and bears the false title "Nouveau Recueil de voyages, second volume and third volume".
