According to the Royal Collection Trust, which holds another impression of this mezzotint in its collection, this portrait of Queen Elizabeth I (England 1533-1603), based on the earlier, circa 1600, famous oil painting by Isaac Oliver, is, "One of a group of 21 plates of John Faber Senior's series of Reformers, originally engraved in 1715. The plates were later purchased by [the publisher] Bakewell's and subsequently re-engraved by Richard Houston and presented as illustrations to Richard Rolt's "Lives of the Reformers" published in 1759.
