I. 46.4 x 36.5 cm, S. 47.0 x 37.3 cm. The sheet with an elaborate crowned coat-of-arms watermark.

Born in Paris, Flipart initially trained with his father, the engraver Jean-Charles Flipart (France circa 1684-1751), then traveled to Venice and worked under Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (Italy 1696-1770) and Jacopo Amigoni (Italy circa 1685-1752). Following this sojourn in Venice, he worked for some time in Rome and he was subsequently appointed court painter and engraver by King Ferdinand VI of Spain in 1750.
This scarce etching comes from a series of eight prints made by Flipart while he was in Italy, depicting daily life in Venice.

Dr. C. Axel Widstrand (Sweden 1866-1956), with the ink stamp verso (Lugt 2630a); The collection of Engineer and Major Frank Bensow (1883-1969), with the ink stamp verso (Lugt 982c).
