This etching shows two men among ancient ruins and sepulchral vessels covered by a destructive ivy. The putto on the monument upper right with the downturned torch and the other one on the ground in profile, making the sign of silence with his right hand, allude to death. The weapons, musical instruments and a book on the ground indicate that human actions are reduced to dust by the ravages of time.
