This frontispiece etching used for Perrier's printed masterpiece, with 100 etchings (plus the etched frontispiece) representing classical antique sculptures, a groundbreaking work for its time (reprinted five times before the end of the 17th century). The frontispiece shows a personification of Time as a naked, winged old man holding a scythe, biting the Torso Belvedere set on a pedestal beside a coat of arms crowned by cherubs; on the ground, fragments of statue and pilaster, and a snake biting its own tail (a symbol representing continuity, eternity and the cycle of life).
